Staycation

Summer is here and our weekends have been booked since January with weekend getaways. Well this year, I’m trying something different. Instead of leaving Chicago every chance I get, I’m going to take advantage of what it has to offer to it’s summer patrons – thus started my staycation!
Every weekend a different neighborhood in Chicago shuts downs its street and we all celebrate like it’s 1999. Old Town kicked off the festival season with the Old Town Art Fair. Where else can you drink sangria and buy art? We walked the shoulder-to-shoulder shuffle at the Art Fair on Wells Street, and if by art fair you mean raging in the street, than yes, it’s an art fair. After we had seen the art, and the beer tents, we made our way over to the true garden-walk art fair. The back alleys of the neighborhood were lined with amazing vendors, none of which would allow me to have a photoshoot – other than the one vendor that didn’t know we used their tent for a photoshoot – what they don’t know won’t hurt them.
To be prepared for such an affair, I picked up a backpack “purse” from Marshalls and LOADED it with necessities for the day. You know an extra pair of shoes, sunscreen, sunnies case, snacks and a second phone battery – something I could never live without – all from Marshalls. I’d have to say, the best part of the whole experience is that I was hands free. It’s like I was wearing a baby bjorn and my child, my purse belongings, were with me all snuggled and protected.

Next we took a 35 mile road trip north to the promised land – Libertyville, IL. To some, it’s the boondocks, to me, it’s home. While it was father’s day, we took advantage of our road trip and pretended to be tourists. We dined on the local fare, shopped for antiques and took in the sites. All of which couldn’t have been done without comfort or style. Especially when traveling, I like to keep things light – or maybe it was because of the humidity. The perfect look for our day of travel were these black track pants by Issac Mizrahi and this Intermix peplum top, which happened to be a match made in heaven – all excellent #fab finds from Marshalls.Hoping you all had a great weekend whether you were vacationing, or staycationing! Peace out!
