Talk Derby To Me

It’s that time of year again to dust off your wide-brim hats and smell the roses. There are all sorts of pomp and circumstance around the Kentucky Derby, and the Sportsanista is in heaven! There is no other sporting event where the fashion is equally as important as the competition.

This year I’ve partnered with Caché to style pieces from their newest collection and get them Derby ready! The collection is full of luxe fabrics, flattering silhouettes, bright colors and my personal favorite, lace! Caché is a brand that speaks to me, and my closet. The brand exudes confidence and strength. One thing that I preach constantly is that a good garment should be versatile. While all the looks are Derby ready, I can easily transition any of these Caché pieces for a date night, wedding or work! Life made easy.

Who says you can’t wear white before Labor Day? At the Derby, there are no rules. It’s go big (literally), or go home. I present to you, the Floral Placement Halter Dress. There are two things that really make this dress stand out. 1) It’s a halter dress that has a flattering silhouettes for all shapes… and a built-in gold necklace. What? A dress that accessorizes? That’s like finding a unicorn. 2) The floral detailing is placed ever so carefully, while contouring and not highlighting areas on the body.

The key to pairing a hat with this look is to complement the details rather than dilute them. For this first look, I forewent the wide-brim hat and chose to pair the dress with a fascinator in an attempt to focus the eye on the dress. Most Derby looks start with an understated solid colored dress and a hat the size of Texas… that was not my objective with this look. A fascinator is a fresh, classy take on the Derby hat – adopted from our friends across the pond. Most importantly, no hat hair 🙂

I didn’t want to take away from the fact that the dress has a built-in necklace. So, I added these simple, yet detailed, gold bracelets from House of Gemmes. to accessorize. Remember, less is more in the look – more is more when it comes to the hat.

This Orange Lace Sheath Dress was the first dress to have caught my eye on Caché’s website. The color is on-point with the spring and summer trend. Orange is making a huge comeback and is no longer feared as a color. Orange has been in reds shadow for far too long 🙂 This is your standard Derby dress… which isn’t a bad thing! From a distance it appears to be a solid colored dress, but it actually has a lace overlay that adds to the beauty in its detail. The silhouette is classic and flattering, and has just the right amount of sexy with the cutout in the back.
While the features of this dress are subtle, the accessories should not be – starting with the hat. Now, I’ll be honest… I struggled to find a hat that complimented the dress. When in doubt, make one. A quick trip to Michael’s, some Gorilla Glue, and a hot glue gun was all I needed. 10 minutes later, I turned this beach hat from Target into a Derby worthy hat. Adding a little DIY to your look always gives you something to talk about if you get bored of watching the ponies.
Lace, meet jumpsuit. Jumpsuit, meet the Derby. I love nothing more than an unconventional look – I try to do it everyday of my life. I work in a corporate setting and love adding a twist to my “corporate flare.” Well, I’ve done the same with my FAVORITE Derby look – lace, black and… a jumpsuit. This Embroidered Lace Wrap Jumpsuit is the mecca of all jumpsuits. This piece can easily transition from day to night, and can easily be worn at the Derby or even a black-tie event. This is a spring “must have” item!

This garment itself makes a statement, so I paired it with a chic fascinator with a top-knot to compliment the elegance of the lace. To add a pop of color, I blended my two favorite reds from MAC Cosmetics – Ruby Woo and Relentlessly Red. Separately they are great, together they are  thebomb.com.

  3. What lovely outfits! We don’t necessarily have a classy derby so unfortunately I wouldn’t be able to locally wear a cute outfit & head out to bet but I am loving your fashion sense. Teach me your ways! xx, Ada
