Today I’m sharing another look from our UK trip! After a week of work, we took the train up to Scotland for a 48 hour stint. The train was wonderful, scenic and serene..until the following two things happened. 1) About five minutes into the train ride, I realized that my beloved iPad was not with me. I panicked and searched everywhere! The mother/daughter duo sat next to us thought I was a crazy pants American – and I was. Thank the Lord for the “Find my iPhone” app and thank my smart-self in the past that downloaded the app. I immediately made it do a Harry Potter locator spell and voila – it was found at the hotel I just left. Silly me, left it in the sheets as I was doing my morning wake-up routine – yes, I snuggle with my iPad. I spent hours on the phone with the hotel to try and locate my iPad, but since England doesn’t believe in cellphone towers, I kept losing them.
About half-way through the train ride, I’m still frantic, Brian is peacefully sleeping, and a hoard of smelly, One Direction looking college kids board the train blasting EDC music and enough booze to drown a department store. Of course, they sit next to and around us – for our viewing pleasure. The best part is, they decided to play power hour – I was reliving college in horror all over again. Brian wakes up and moves us over to a more quiet side of the train that has since been cleared. Well, if can’t beat ’em, join ’em. The bar cart came through, and we were of age, so we bought some brews and played our owns games.
We were about 15 minutes from Edinburgh and I received another phone call from the hotel. They had located the iPad on a server train – random, but I wasn’t in the mood to ask questions. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect – now it was time to enjoy the trip!!
On our first full day, we woke up nice and early to go on a whisky tour – the things I do for Brian. We go out to the location we were told to meet the van at – “Howies” Restaurant”. Turns out, there are two Howies in a .5 radius of our hotel – who knew. We ended up missing the tour, but it was somewhat of a blessing in disguise. We decided to tackle Arthur’s Seat – the highest point in Edinburgh. What you don’t read about online is that its likely the windiest FREAKING place on earth. Gale forced winds are just another day for those people.
We climbed and made it to the top, barely, and snapped a few photos to prove to ourselves that we made it. The rest of the day was dedicated to eating the local fare, minus haggis, and drinking the local drinks. We ate lunch at Le Cafe Bleu – a darling little cafe with the best french toast I’ve had in a while.  We had drinks at the Wee Pub – the smallest bar in Scotland and indeed it was.
In honor of the trip, some European wool was a must when it came time to packing. I found this gorgeous Italian wool sweater from Zara while in Manchester. The color sucked me – whether it pairs with my hair or not 🙂 For a day of walking, comfort was key, which is why I paired the sweater with these fabulous distressed pants from H&M and comfortable booties from Gap.
Well, I think thats enough talking for one day, what do you think?
