Scarlet Fever

Today Im going to discuss the easiest fall/winter accessory…..the iconic red lip!

I know what some of your are thinking….. You are thinking, isn’t lipstick something my mom wore in the 80’s? Well, yes, but trends always come full circle right? Now trust me on this, lipstick doesn’t just look good on the Kardashian sisters…..

Selecting a lipstick could be quite overwhelming……which brand is the best? Do you go matte? Creamsheen? Sheen? Gloss? Satin? Lustre? Longwear? Oh and lets not forget, the color must match your skin tone!! Ok im exhausted and my head hurts!!

The sports industry is still fairly conservative in that wearing bright lipstick everyday to work may call attention to yourself in a way you weren’t looking to seek attention. I remember the first time I wore darker nail polish to work, I got the….”Is that black on your nails? Is that some sort of Gothic thing.” 1) Its not black 2) Its called My Private Jet  by OPI. We are educating slowly, but surely 🙂

The key is to transition a bright lip into your everyday look subtly. If its not something that you are used to wearing, or that people aren’t used to seeing you wear, its best to ease in slowly.

Here is my conservative solution…..move over casual Fridays, helloooo lipstick Fridays. Try it out! Why not! Every Friday, pair your casual early weekend outfit with a colored lip for an instant boost!

Ive taken the liberty of doing some field testing for my beloved readers on this seasons hottest colors!
Happy shopping Sportsanistas!

What you will learn from the below, is that I am a loyal MAC costumer. Not only is their make-up full-proof, but it’s affordable!

Looking to put some joy in your Friday? Try Oh Joy from MAC’s Glitter and Ice collection. Start the weekend with a beautiful deep berry colored lip. This color will make your teeth whiter than any teeth whitening products!

It looks dark, however, when you put this on its a beautiful rich berry color.

Want that runway look? Meet Runaway Red from MAC. Be careful with a red like this or it will do you wrong. Go light on the cheek and easy on the eye to off-set the brightness of the lip.

I would sleep in this color…true story.
For that perfect Friday red look, try MAC’s Eden Rouge matte-sheen (mattene) hybrid. The matte side gives the texture and color of the lip a flat look.

What are your favorite bright lip sticks?
