Pop, Fizz, Clink, the Summer Edition by Megan Riggs

Summer is here which means two things: this little Riggsicle has thawed and The Food & Wine Classic took Aspen by storm.  I learned very quickly, that if there is one thing Aspen does well, besides accumulate snow, it is throw one heck of a party.  In the days leading up to the weekend of indulgence, wealth, celebrity, and inevitable poor life choices, I found myself lusting after the idea of a day in the tents.  After two days of willing the universe and sending mind bullets to the Food & Wine directors, my dreams became a reality when two gals from Napa came into the store and surrendered their colleagues’ passes.  Nearly in tears, I thanked these strangers’ work conflicts and rescheduled flights.  This certainly cleaned out the good karma bank, but believe you me, it was worth it.

Once the fear of someone asking me about “my” company faded, the wardrobing began.   Knowing I would be in a sea of diamonds, silicone, and Louis, I had to bring my “A” game.  Two things were certain – giant hat and my Kate gold Melinda bag.  The rest was to be a careful pairing of pieces that would allow for free hands, bottomless wine, and a 10am mac-n-cheese and wine tasting.
If you are thinking, wow! white was a brave choice, you are correct.  Somehow, the girl who runs into walls and spills coffee on the daily stayed stain free.  Thank the good sweet lord.
There were many highlights of the day, including and not limited to eating cheese and drinking wine I would never afford, sampling butter, leaving with a purse full of Fig Newton bars and the numerous compliments on my outfit.  If these folks only knew the Gap dress was on sale, my shoes were undoubtedly purchased along side some Windex at Target and my necklace was on clearance at Kohls.  Lifestyles of the broke and ambitious met that of the rich and famous.  Sweet, sweet, bubbly victory.
