Rock, Paper, Blazer by Megan Riggs

When Tim Gunn was asked what every woman should have in her closet her responded simply with, “The blazer”.  How do I know this, you ask? I was there.  Last Spring Mr. Make it Work himself came to Kansas City and offered his fashion wisdom to the masses.  I’m with Tim, god bless a good blazer.  They are timeless, structured, and can add a pop of sophistication to your favorite game day tee.  They are like the black patten leather pump for your torso.

This is one of those pieces that I believe is worth adding to the investment list.  When it comes to an article of clothing so versatile and important, it needs to be perfection.  We do not slup on structure or quality.  While selecting the perfect blazer, I like to go for a navy, black, or dark charcoal gray.  If leaning toward a pattern think houndstooth or tweed.  Steer clear of any print too large, this can look trendy and cut down on the life and wearability.  Here are a few that have been pining for my attention and begging for a spot in my closet.
Leave it to J.Crew to combine two of my favorite things to create one killer garment.  This houndstooth blazer with suede elbow patches (so academic) melts my heart.  After I shed a tear, I planned about fifteen outfits within a matter of seconds.  Stop what you are doing and purchase this.
This little number from Gap is sharp.  The white trim on this classic cut is eye catching, the double button brings in the waist and above the hip cut will lengthen the torso.  Hello  beautiful!  Best of all it is only $88 and comes in navy and dark gray.  You stop it!
I leave you with the words of Tina Fey, “Sometimes a lady just likes to leave her blazer on.”
