The Riggsicle Chronicles by Megan Riggs

2013 is
among us.  New Year, new start, new trends, new obsessions.  At Kate
Spade, we using 2013 to celebrate 20 years of making women’s lives better one
handbag at a time and highlighting the things we love.  I love a lot of
things; coffee, puppies, glitter, Australians, champaign, tailgates, baseball
pants, Chapstick…I digress.  The other morning I awoke from my cozy
mountain slumber, to open my shutters and see it was awfully gloomy and frosty
outside.  Immediately I reached for my trusty iphone and asked Siri to tell
me the temperature.  She replied with “Lady Riggs, the current
temperature is negative seventeen degrees.”  Thinking Siri had a
silly (sick) sense of humor, I checked the weather and sure enough, Siri did
not lie, it was indeed -17.  As I began to dry my frozen tears of pain,
California dreaming, and dry skin, I couldn’t help but think of all the things
winter skin saving I love.
Ever
since Father Winter saw his way back into my life, I have formed an
inseparable and undying love for three products. See below.
L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream
It is
said that cold hands lead to a warm heart, however, no one has ever made
mention of where dry and weathered hands lead.  That is because it
is no where good.  L’Occitane sent me a sample of their shea
butter hand cream in the mail.  Their marketing tactics worked perfectly
as I now own an entire tube.  This was love at first slather.  The
creamy concoction soaks right in like butter on hot bread.  Hands are left
feeling smooth, moisturized and with scent ever so delicate, you find yourself
wanting to smell your hands all day long.  Class act.  When I went to
purchase my full sized tube of weather defense, I opted for the shea and date
scent, and you should too.
Nivea Lip Balm
I once
made the mistake of licking my dry lips whilst walking home on a balmy 10
degree night.  All around regrettable.  After living with the
consequences of said poor life choice for a few days, I needed a lip fix.
Being too lazy to walk the three blocks to City Market and knowing the 50 minute
drive to Target was simply laughable, I began rummaging through my drawers.
Seeing as I live in a shoebox, it did not take long to find my golden
ticket.  In the depths of the bathroom drawer, behind the piles of
ponytail holders and mound of bobby pins, I found an unopened tube Nivea lip
balm.  Fairly certain that I purchased it myself and forgot about it, and
honestly not really caring where it came from, I ripped into it like a
kid on Christmas morning.  Much like a kid at Christmas, I was in
heaven.  My lips were instantly hydrated and smooth. Every purse, tote and
clutch I own now has a tube of this little gem in it.  Get involved, you
will be glad you did.
Clinique Moisture Surge
We all
know that not aging is high on my life goal/priorities list.  Winter
at 7,908 ft. is giving this bullet point a run for its money.
Somedays it seems you can’t walk to the mailbox without feeling like you
just stuck your face in giant freezer, followed by the world’s hottest
blowdryer.  Can we say premature wrinkles and uneven skin tone??? Not on
my watch.  People in this town use La Mer like it is Vaseline, it
is le annoying.  Since $200 skin cream isn’t in the ol’ budget, I had
to find something else that would make my pretty little face feel like it just
took a big drink of mountain spring water.  Clinique Moisture
Surge is my tall glass of water.  I have had my jar since November
and it is still holding strong.  A little of this fast absorbing, smooth, finishing serum goes a long way.  I like to purchase it from Nordstom because they ship for free.  Bless their hearts.
This
little Riggsicle is looking forward to Saturday’s heatwave…35 degrees!
Stay hydrated and stay moisturized Sportsanistas.
