Mani of the Month

Morning Sportsanistas!

In all seriousness 1) I cannot believe that it’s July 2nd, 2) Summer is practically over, 3) I love that it’s Mani of the Month time already! Now for me, every time I head to the salon to get a manicure, I spend more time selecting ONE color than I do actually getting the manicure. I absolutely hate having to commit to one color for the length of one mani….and let me tell you…these aren’t my only commitment issues….different day, different blog 🙂 Lately I’ve been hooked on getting some ring finger bling done with every manicure I get, however each time the manicurist looks at me like a coo-coo bird, because 1) I have their entire nail polish collection resting in my lap and 2) yes, I’m 28 and I still put glitter on my fingers; it’s totally normal and fine.

This week, I thought that I’d switch it up. Now, I cannot give myself a manicure, but in between manicures I can most certainly paint my nails with one, or three, colors from my exuberant nail polish collection…..in my fridge. Note, little lesson I learned from my aunt….keep nail polish in the fridge to prevent it from clumping. It’s kinda like putting bread or bananas in the fridge; it keeps them fresh when  in the fridge, but take them out and leave them out….sad story. Boring analogy, now back to the manicure……for this weeks mani I’ve selected Tickle Me France-y by OPI, Prosecco by Santa Margherita and Around Sundown by Piggy Polish. This manicure can be replicated with any three polishes, mailing labels/tape/french manicure stickers and a sweet top coat.

First, I painted the first and second coat with Tickle Me France-y by OPI and Prosecco by Santa Margherita (for the ring finger bling, obvi – duh). After letting them dry for a good 15 minutes, maybe more, I placed strips of tape on my nails to create clean lines for painting (you can use anything, just make sure that the adhesive is not like Gorilla Glue). Make sure to cut the labels so that they fit on your nail; small pieces or strips will work. Once I had established the pattern  I wanted, I painted another coat but with both Prosecco by Santa Margherita and Around Sundown by Piggy Polish.

I chose an easy diagonal pattern where I would start the tape one side of the nail, and lay it on a diagonal to the top and bottom part of my nail. I started first with the top diagonal and chose to paint that with the Santa Margherita color. After I let that dry, I repeated the process with the bottom diagonal and the Piggy Polish color. Now, after I painted two nails with this color, I realized I didn’t fancy it enough to put it on all fingers, so I went with two.

The only piece of advice I could give would be to WAIT and let your nails dry, otherwise you will be frustrated with the results, i.e not sure perfect lines on my nails. Note to self, this manicure takes about 30 minutes and some patience 🙂

After I had completed the artwork, I sealed the deal with a top coat; I use the fast drying top coat by Esse.

Manicures are a blast in a glass and have become somewhat of an accessory these days for your overall look; so you can make them as work friendly, or as not work friendly, as you like! Good luck and have fun with your manicures this month!
