Fashion that Gives Back

After working a 70 – 80 hour work week, sadly the last thing on my mind was how could I give back to my community and elsewhere. After a long day or long work week, all I wanted to do was go home and sleep! I know I can’t be the only person in that boat!! 🙂 Well I have the answers to all your problems…..guilt free fashion aka fashion that gives back! So you aren’t able to give back time or a large monetary donation, why not buy something that could add value to your wardrobe, and create a better life for someone else! Let’s shop the cause together!

Kate Spade, my dear friend Kate Spade (oh and Ms. Riggs new personal BFF), have partnered with Women for Women International, an organization that employs women survivors of war, civil strife and other conflicts, and provides them with sustainable income. The program trains and employs female artisans to create colorful crafted items like this beaded necklace.  This necklace can also be found in canary yellow, just in time for Summer! The necklace is priced at $148, but the opportunity you are providing for another women with this purchase is priceless…..and you can always use another necklace!

I’ve been kinda sorta crushing on these Toms lately. You cannot beat comfort in the form of chambray! Toms is a shoe company that matches every pair you purchase, with a pair of shoes to a child in need. As the founder of Toms learned, many children in developing countries grow-up barefoot, putting them at risk in their environment. As of September 2010, Toms has given back over 1,000,000 pairs of new shoes! Placed at an extremely affordable price point, these shoes can be extremely versatile in your closet……walking to work shoes, “the shoes before the shoes” shoes (aka event day shoes), weekend wear, travel wear….the list goes on. The best part is, they have a color and/or design to appease any customer!

Last but certainly not least, I have a little nugget to share with you about my love child H&M. H&M has just recently launched their fifth Fashion Against Aids to raise funds and educate those about HIV/AIDS affecting our youth. 25% of all sales generated by H&M will be spread across a variety of organizations that support youth HIV/AIDS awareness. The collection is right on par with fashion everywhere with its tribal patterns and bright colors. The price of these products will hardly break the bank ranging from this $5.95 poncho  to this $34.95 jacket.

No donation is too small! Make a difference this weekend!

Happy Friday!
