Chic Functionality by Megan Riggs

Take a look at the bag you carried your work life in to the office this morning.  If it looks like something you ordered out of Skymall circa ’92, we have problems.  I am not saying we cannot be friends, I would probably just have to get to know you first.  The boxy triple compartment, 17 zippers, holds a computer, printer, and has a built in filing system…..this bag needs an immediate DQ.  These monstrosities are about as unacceptable as the white boots the Laker Girls wear.  There are plenty of chic, yet functional, totes and bags out there just waiting to get off the pine.

Now, before I go any further, I know you are thinking, “Megan if I don’t have a built in computer holder, what am I supposed to do?”  Don’t you fret my pretty little fashionistas, because you are in luck.  Designers such as Marc Jacobs (forever faithful) and Kate Spade have entire lines of electronic cases, your computer is begging for you to slip them in.  I guarantee  your laptop would love you more if you came home with either of one of these:

Now that we have proper laptop protection taken care of, we can move on to the heart of the matter….the bag.  First, let’s make one thing clear, if you truly love a bag, you will make it work, no excuses.  I have taken the liberty of providing you with my top three selections.  We have Mr. Baker leading off, Kate on deck, and Michael rounding out the order.
Ted Baker London Quilted Patent Shopper: Those side pockets look like the perfect place to slip a lap top…
Ted Baker
Kate Spade Barclay Street Dama: Kate has gone so far as to build in a secret compartment for your Ipad.  So thoughtful…..
Kate Spade
MICHAEL by Michael Kors Jet Set Top Zip Tote: Michael knows how to dress and accessorize a woman.  End of story.
MICHAEL by Michael Kors
I leave you with the words of fashion’s fairy godmother, Tim Gunn, “Make it work”.
