MLB’s New Dress Code for the Media

Alright Sportsanistas, I want to create some discussion today regarding the new MLB dress code.

Just yesterday the MLB became the first league to establish a dress code for members of the media. We are told that this dress code did not evolve from one certain incident, as the MLB wants to avoid a situation
similar to the one from the New Jersey Jets locker room last season.

ESPN’s Jackie MacMullan: “This looks to me like a target on female sportswriters and you’re telling us we don’t dress appropriately enough. Honestly, I take offense to that because 99.9% of the women I know are professional and dress that way.” I agree!! Much of the language in the article leads you to believe that these guidelines were put in place due to the inappropriateness of some female reporters. The population of women reporters who chose to “sell” more than just a story is down right repulsive; it only takes one instance to create a bad name for the rest of the group.

Its disappointing that the MLB had to go through such lengths in order to promote appropriate and professional dress to media members; its common sense really! There really is not grey area with business casual…….

As an employee of any company you must be cognizant at all times that not only are you representing yourself, but something larger than yourself as well. Sure there are some people who don’t like being told what to do, but don’t you have enough respect for yourself to dress more appropriately?

Maybe some of the violators need to read my blog 🙂

Here are some of the banned items:
sheer and see-through clothing
ripped jeans
one-shouldered
strapless shirts or clothing exposing bare midriffs
“excessively short” skirts, dresses or shorts cut more than 3-4 inches above the knee
 visible undergarments
tank tops
anything with a team logo
They forgot to add Hawaiian shirts….
