His & Her Cocktails

I love the holidays. I love them like Elf loves smiling and sugar – true story. The festive cheer, glittery fashions, wintery decor and tasty treats make me all warm and fuzzy inside. Well, Brian and I are sharing our favorite cocktails that we enjoy, especially during the holiday season – you know, the warm and fuzzy kind. Both are festive and easy to replicate, and are to be enjoyed while sitting under your tree, near a fire, on a bearskin rug, in chunky knit sweaters or flannels pi’s 🙂 Enjoy!
Smoked Maple Syrup Old Fashioned
What you need:
2.5 oz Basil Hayden bourbon
4 dashes Angostura bitters (we made our own!!)
Less than 1 teaspoon simple syrup
Less than 1 scant teaspoon maple syrup
1 orange peel
In a glass, combine simple syrup, bitters, smoked maple syrup & maple syrup. Stir. Add bourbon. Stir. Squeeze orange peel over the glass, rub the peel along the inside of the glass and drop the peel in the glass. Add ice. Stir. Drink.
Apple Pie Moonshine

What you need:
1 750ml bottle of 190 proof Everclear – or if you know a guy…..
1 Gallon Apple Cider
1 Quart Apple Juice
3 Cups of Brown Sugar
1 Cup of White Sugar
10 Cinnamon Sticks
1 Large Stock Pot
6 Mason Jars (Quart-sized)
In the large stock pot, combine the apple cider, apple juice, cinnamon sticks and bring them all to a simmer. Add the sugars to the pot and stir for 5 to 10 minutes, or until dissolved. Remove the pot from heat and let the pot cool for HOURS. The key is to NOT evaporate the alcohol content – that would be bad. After the mixture has cooled, add three cups of the Everclear to the mixture. Pour the mixture across the 6 mason jars – equally distribute the cinnamon across the jars. Over time the cinnamon flavors will out weigh the alcohol. Trouble or blast in a glass?
