Grey on Grey

Anyone else getting cabin fever??? The snow is pretty and fun for all of two seconds, and those two seconds are usually around Christmas when I’m happy and already in good spirits. Right now my body is angry and requires A LOT of vitamin D. Two more days until my happy ass is perched on a pool chair in my bikini – trashy magazine in one hand, cocktail in the other. Miami, if you dare pour rain while we are there, I will go Teresa Guidice on your ass – no one wants that. Anyways, I digress….
While mixing patterns and textures is a lot of fun, I also really enjoy pairing different shades of one color together too. It makes for a simple yet chic look – trying with grey is probably the easiest place to start. Grey is one of those colors with a variety of shades, depths and textures that makes it easy to pair for any situation. Grey has this stigma of being a casual color, but if done right, it could be oh so chic!
For our California trip I packed a wealth of neutrals – something about bright colors, winter and LA really just don’t do it for me…right now that is. I bought these items from H&M – one over the summer and the other in the fall. I went to pack this dress for the trip only to find this vest next to the dress – it’s as if they wanted to be paired together. Layering the two pieces created a casual chic look on that cool California night. To add more grey dimension to the look, I paired the pieces with my (seriously) favorite and go-to booties of the fall/winter. The bootie is light enough, in color, to not shorten my already short legs, and the shade of grey contrasts nicely with the other two pieces.
Now you know the simple mechanics of throwing some shade on your look 🙂 Check out my black on black look here.
