Antique Florals

Another day, another dollar. It’s Monday and we are back. I hate to say this, but summer may be over. I’m in some serious denial as well – I mean I’m really not ready to put my denim shorts in the back of the closet, nor am I ready to get my winter coats out of storage. That sounds like more work than it’s worth, so winter, do me a favor and bugger off. Pardon my anger, but I just got back from a lovely weekend in Cape Cod and this whole “back to reality” thing blows.
Cape Cod was lovely as always. The weekend consisted of stuffing our faces and laughing our faces off. The first meal of the trip was at The Mills – a family restaurant on the Cape. My order? Lobster Benedict. Fresh lobster for breakfast is as heavenly as it sounds. After we rolled ourselves out of The Mills, we headed out to Dennis for some antiquing. I stumbled across a Louis Vuitton garment bag from the 70’s – actually it was whispering my name from two aisles over. It sang sweet nothings to me. It was perfect, minus a little damage to the detailing. It was vintage and I wanted it. I walked away for a few minutes to come back to two ladies eyeing my goods. The only thing from keeping me from jumping at them were, well, my morals. We left the shop empty handed due to an authenticity concern – I cried and so did the bag.
The next day we hit the ferry over to Martha’s Vineyard. I’ve take this same ferry once before and never had an issue with choppy waters. Had I known the waters would have been choppy, I would have probably stayed home – #seasickproblems. As we are pulling away from the dock, an automated message informed us that the waters were choppy and to hold on to you loins. I reached for the shore, but it was too late. I focused on the horizon, because I’m told that is what you are supposed to do, and white knuckled my chair. Meanwhile, my friends baby was giggling from excitement – I’m such a baby.  We are about halfway there and the boat tries to nearly capsize. A lady sat behind us screamed bloody murder from the rocking – this obviously wasn’t helping my nerves. I wanted to shove a lobster roll in her mouth to keep her quiet. Any way, we made it. I survived and so did the boat.
We hopped on scooters and buzzed our way over to Edgartown for some shopping and lunch. We started with a glass of rose and crab guacamole from the Atlantic Chop House. Post appetizers we headed to the Seafood Shanty for tasty, you guessed it, seafood. With some food and drink in my belly I was ready to shop. I left the island with black knit hat with a fur pom. I hope I have no where to wear this anytime soon.
On our way back to the airport, we had plans to stop through Boston to spend some time in the Boston Common Gardens. Sounds like a good idea right? Maybe on any other day, but on this particular day the park was filled with skunks wearing tye-dye. Catch my drift? There was a cannibis street fest in the middle of the Boston Commons and unbeknownst to us, we show up with a baby. Needless to say, we didn’t stay long. With that said….

Today I’m wearing one of my favorite transitional pieces. The antique floral print on this dress makes it super easy to wear across summer and fall…maybe winter with some tights. Who knows! The only good thing about this seasonal change is that I get to take my boots out of hibernation. These color-block booties by Sam Edelman, and a great TJ Maxx find, are the perfect boot for fall. Don’t be surprised if you see them more than once, or twice this season.

Enjoy your Monday!
